What if we could transform one of LA’s least used freeways into…

A shaded park promenade with seating and a transit stop where the freeway is today

A large new park on the Westside

Axonometric rendering of housing, park and creek replacing the freeway

4,000 new units of affordable housing

The corridor reconnecting the community of Del Rey

A reconnected community with a rapid bus and bike path

Marina Central Park can be a symbol for sustainability, walkability, and improved quality of life

Marina Central Park masterplan — new residential, retail, park, plazas and trails along the corridor

The 90 Freeway, or Marina Expressway, was originally planned as a 41 mile freeway traveling along Slauson through central Los Angeles, terminating in Anaheim.

Only a small 3 mile western stub was built along Centinela Creek. The underutilized freeway disrupts precious wetlands, creates pollution, and divides the community of Del Rey in half.

Marina Central Park proposes transforming the freeway right of way into high quality park space and dense affordable housing.

Detailed calculations — 128 acre right of way, 50% open space, ~3,840 residential units

Marina Central Park is a massive opportunity for LA, a city that is one of the most park poor and housing burdened cities in California. It would reconnect a currently divided street grid with new access to Centinela Creek, a new linear path and green space, the existing Ballona Creek trail, and the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve.
